SD Unit

Debut single Time to Change
SD Unit is a group of five young people from the Dwazark Ghetto in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Together they have been making music for the past nine years. In different formations. They write and compose their own music, but until the opportunity came along to record Time to Change, they never had the money to record their music.
When the Holland based foundation Mind to Change explored the ghetto's for musical talent to record a song for their campaign to raise awareness about child soldiers, country coordinator Lansana Juana stumbled upon Christo, Inspirational Snazzy and Rapstar, who were singing their tunes while selling marijuana in one of the slums of Freetown. Impressed with their musical talent, Lansana asked the three young men to write and compose a song about former child soldiers in Sierra Leone. The result is Time to Change: a song about the difficulties former child soldiers still face in Sierra Leone, ghetto life and the life of street children.
Unfortunately, Christo dropped out during the recording process. Inspirational Snazzy took over the lead vocals. And it was a success. Snazzy’s voice is dramatic, impressive and melodious. A rare talent in the musical scene of Sierra Leone.
Time to Change was released in Sierra Leone in the course of march 2010. The song was first played by DJ Schoolface on Culture Radio. DJ Schoolface’s efforts to promote Time to Change helped the SD Unit to get big time exposure on Sierra Leone’s national television channel SLBC when their video clip was just released.
SD Unit plans to record a full album in 2010. Like their talent? Contribute! Make your donation through Mind to Change. Make sure the description in your bank transfer refers to the SD Unit!
